About British Columbia Regional Digitized History

The University of British Columbia's Okanagan Campus Library has cultivated regional partnerships with community memory institutions across B.C.'s southern interior to enhance access to archival records and primary sources through the British Columbia Regional Digitized History (BCRDH) project.

The project's primary purpose has been to connect UBCO Library's Okanagan Special Collections and Archives program to community repositories in the pursuit of creating a shared digital portal compiling a wide range of local historical resources including photographs, oral histories, video, maps, and newspapers.

Repositories interested in partnering with the Library to add digital copies of their archival holdings to the BCRDH portal are encouraged to contact us.

For more information about BCRDH, visit our Annual Reports page and our Newsletters page.

For more information about Arca, including project timelines, announcements, annual reports, etc. please visit the BC ELN website. If you have questions about Arca, contact the Arca Administrative Centre. The site is hosted by Charlottetown, PEI-based software firm discoverygarden. Implementation was supported by a grant from the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

Project History

What is now B.C. Regional Digitized History originally began as Digitized Okanagan History (DOH) which was initiated by Chris Hives (UBC University Archivist, Emeritus) and Heather Berringer (former UBCO Chief Librarian) in 2016. Subsequently, the work of the rebranded BCRDH has expanded to more regions in B.C.’s southern interior, including Kootenay and Columbia (2020) and Thompson and Nicola (2022). The reach of the project now extends to cover much of BC's southern interior.
